I have 25 years experience using and supporting Apple, Windows and Linux boxes. 'What is it'? It's once in a while, maybe once a year, I get tired of reading countless assertions that are simply not true. Then, as I go to debunk falsehoods, point by point, talk moves on to defensive fanbois. When I'm pushed, I'm passionate ... about facts.

I don't want to understand how it works, I just want it to work.

(12,471 posts)Different OSes are good for different things. Those us with experience in different operating systems, and the software that works best on each of them know that.
I feel that fanbois are just the folks who haven't a clue as to what works best with what.
I even find it where I work. I work in a "Microsoft Shop," and seem to be the Mac guy, just because I bought one a while back, and prefer it with the VM Ware client that I use to support everything else. They come to me when someone can't access the website on their Apple. They think that Windows is better simply because most people use it, and Wintel boxes are cheaper than Macs. The programmers don't have a clue. Little do they know that their MS crap is served up on Linux servers! So I guess what I am trying to say is that it works all ways. There are fanbois of every OS. It's us "agnostics" who will just use whatever is put in front of us, and make the best of it, and use it for what it does best.
But people don't like to hear facts. They would rather believe some commercial, or some industry rag, so they can feel good about the time and money that they spent on their system.
