(2,079 posts)Can can you just buy it, or is it being released as a subscription service? I've heard good things about it, and having Microsoft is convenient in the world we live in, but I really object to yearly fees. I want an operating system, not a subscription.

(6,261 posts)I've heard that it would become mandatory in this version, and I won't install it if it does. No cloud services for me either.
But as I recall, you can make an offline account with the Pro version.
Cloud services are on by default, but can also be turned off.
