I get about four each a week from (allegedly) Norton and McAfee similar to that one.

It looks like the 800 number is a scammer.

12. If you aren't using Norton, it's a scam, but if you were - don't use their link or phonenumbers ...

... you'd go through your account.

I've never ever been given a phone number to call on an e-mail from a software download I've made. In fact finding a phone number to Norton can be a pain. But I have used Norton and I had auto renewing and I never ever got a message like that. That phone number just rings false.

Norton is good company, and if McAfee was bad, or I wasn't so tied down with it, I'd sign right up with Norton.

I wanted to pass along this message to let your readers know of a new and incredibly convincing fake Norton email renewal scam involving Norton Antivirus and Lifelock.

I received two emails today (from two different email addresses) with a special promotion to 'upgrade' my Norton Antivirus and Lifelock with an enticing 67% discount off the retail price. The emails are incredibly convincing, unless of course you are knowledgeable enough to realize it's a scam.

If you click on a link to read more or to buy the product, it will lead you to a page where you'll give up your personal information, phone number, and/or credit card. What happens next is that an Indian tech support scammer will call you on the phone stating that there was an error with your form input on their website, then they will ask for remote access to the machine - this has already been reported on Norton's web forums, and is similar to what you described in the Expert4Help.com review.

Once they're in the machine, they'll install malware, download all your financial information (read: drain your bank accounts) and install remote access backdoors to propagate more scams. This will continue on indefinitely until you either run out of money, or wise up. "

..as "800 533 8571". (Searching the number without the spaces primarily picks up phone number website gibberish. The quotes avoid partial matches.)

The top two results referenced something called Intoiit (in the Google Search summary: I didn't click on the links). Searching that led to a company by the same name in Dhaka: IntoiiT Bangladesh Limited, which Google says was first indexed by Google in April 2013.

Of course, that doesn't mean that they sent you the email!
