I switched AntiVirus software this week. Dropped AVAST. Went to McAfee. My laptop sped up...
My laptop sped up, noticeably, after the switch. Nice Bonus.
I'm not too adventurous on the internets, and I've used McAfee before.
Got tired of Avast's multiple licenses, add ons, and daily pricing changes to renew.

(3,808 posts)Been using Microsoft Defender and free version of Malwarebytes, Opera browser with Opera Ad Blocker and uBlock for years with nary an issue. Good speed no malware no fees.

(48,897 posts)Avast or another reputable 3rd party av. But windows 10 changed that. I was a late adopter staying on win 7 as long as I could. With win 10 I think the built in protection (if it is working properly) is sufficient and desirable from the standpoint of a better running system. I keep a close eye on it to make sure the updates are working. I also run the Microsoft defender offline scan periodically.
When I stopped using Avast they renewed the license months later and charged me. I had to go back and request a refund which they approved.
