Baffled - how to give Amazon digital music as a gift?

I was planning to give a family member some MP3 downloads as a gift via Amazon, but it looks like they're no longer doing this. This person is a Windows computer user with an Android phone who doesn't use iTunes and prefers Amazon MP3 downloads for music gifts.

This page on Lifewire has a lengthy explanation titled "How to Gift Someone With a Digital MP3 Through Amazon." BUT embedded in the page is this message:

It is no longer possible to gift MP3s through Amazon; however, you can send someone an Amazon gift card, which can be used to purchase music.

OH, thanks!! I guess they're leaving the article up in case the time machine is invented and people will be able to travel back to when it was possible to buy Amazon digital music and give it as a gift!


Giving a gift card accompanied by a list of recommended music purchases seems a little less appealing.

Anybody have any recent experience with giving digital music as a gift via Amazon (or anywhere else one can purchase MP3s these days)? Am I getting so old that even this is old-fashioned??

Just put them on a flash drive and give it to them. Aaargh!

4. Yeah, well -- I don't own the music in question myself

so even if I wanted to just give the modern equivalent of a homemade cassette dub, I'd need to buy it first. But I'm looking to give a legit copy to this person.

Purchase page currently has no option for giving MP3 as a gift. Google produces many hits for this question, but nothing recent.

Asked their chat assist. They asked some silly questions about do you want to give a CD after I specifically asked about MP3, and other ridiculous questions. Eventually responded that you could not give MP3.

Are they correct? Is jb actually passing up the opportunity to make a sale and more profit?

A follow-up reply by the same user says "Some younger family members don't know what a CD is. Trying follow tradition of giving an actual item, not a random gift card."

So I'm not the only one. Looks like Amazon has removed the gift option for MP3 downloads, for business or legal reasons or both. Pity.

I've used them for several years with no problem-You set up an account and pay an amount you choose and they hold your balance...Mine is down to $2.67 so It may be time to send them some more.

8. I find this whole age of digital music immensely frustrating. Not only...

... is it difficult to give it as a present, but the other thing is that people can't listen to it together! It takes effort to fill the house with music so all members get acquainted with it, especially children.

Something's gotta give!

I gave CDs this year. Happily the children's families still have players available.

9. Funny thing is, my Millennial son likes music in three formats:

MP3s, LPs, and cassette tapes! But NOT CDs. Go figure.

LP records have gained in popularity with the younger set over the past few years, which continues to surprise me. Shoulda saved my old 8-tracks for when those come back into vogue!
