new windows update never installed fully... now my computer is slow [UPDATED: SOLVED]

Last edited Fri Aug 14, 2020, 04:47 PM - Edit history (1)

so there is a pretty big new update for Windows so I let it update before I went to bed last night. At that time it said it was 89% complete and the computer may restart a few times. This morning it said 91%. So I shut it down. On restarting there was a message saying it was undoing the update. Finally got the login screen.

NOW everything is taking forever to open. I click on something and the little circle in the tab goes round and round and at the bottom of the screen it says "Resolving Host". The page will ultimately open even with both of these messages still showing.

I googled this and apparently the update has had problems with installation - a lot of people saying the same thing.... that it got to about 90% and never completed.

But I couldn't find a fix now for the slowness. opening a new tab takes even longer.

(I am on a PC, HP, Pavilion, use Chrome, and I have always let previous Microsoft updates run with no problems.)

So, even though I got the message that it was uninstalling the update I still have this problem? I didn't see a fix for this when googled.

Any Help or Suggestions?

Very Frustrated,
IcyPeas

UPDATE: So I totally shut everything down again and restarted. That seems to have fixed things. I think I'm back to normal.
Thank you everyone who answered.

One dated before the update was installed.

This will usually clear up any problems related to a botched update.

Also, tenforums as indicated above may help.

I make sure now to force Windows to create one before any major updates since I had some potentially serious problems about a month ago that fortunately self-resolved.

In your search bar, you can just type Windows 10 restore point to see.

Ever since we've been working from home (Mar 13), we've been using Remote Desktop to get to certain apps. My system updated with something the last night or so and I couldn't get in this morning. Hubby's system updated and everything came up with the WingDing font.
