Need help with Android (Droid 2) messaging

Hi there,
Hubby and I need to get new phones and we're looking at the Samsung Note 9 (hoping it doesn't blow up). That said, I have a question about our text messages.

First, both my husband and I don't understand a thing about this stuff and frankly, we just started texting about a year ago (yes!!). That said, there are texts I really want to keep.

We've been using Messenger+ and were told it doesn't back up and may not transfer to the new phone. As we won't get a new phone until this or next weekend, we have time to do some backing up.

So I have the following questions:
1. Is there an app that leaves the texts "in the cloud" or that automatically backs up? If so, what is that app?
2. Is there a way to transfer the texts we already have in Messenger+ and transfer it to the other app for backup?

Yes, I'll post this in the computer group but wanted to know all your opinions too. Please be very specific - neither one of us have any idea what is going on and the guys at Verizon aren't very helpful.

Thanks

Paula

I just finally educated myself about this a few days ago.

If you have any Google accounts that you use on your phone, Google is probably already backing up to their servers.

I need to run out for a bit, but will post back later, unless I see that someone with more than just a few days of knowledge on this posts first.

Be back soon....

ETA: SMS B&R is a stock app that came with my phone, along with the app I use for texts that is very limited. Not familiar with Messenger,+ but it sounds Googlish, so maybe already backing up?

While I'm gone, go to the Google Play Store and search for SMS Backup & Restore. Install it, try it out. Backup, restore and see how it works. Very easy. Actually, look on your phone first, you may already have it.
