Election Reform
Related: About this forumI suggest voting machines are suspect and there's a good argument for hand counting.
Personally I trust the paper ballots/ electronic counters but anything that marks your ballot for you or worse counts your vote completely electronically is a bad idea.

(2,631 posts)but I think it's suspicious that trump hates absentee ballots. He hates that there is a paper ballot, which makes it harder to cheat. Many states recount using them.

(13,540 posts)This time, I used the dropbox inside the county clerks office.
It is a fill in the dots ballot and I trust the election officials to count them properly.
IMNSHO, having time to go over the choices at home and not drag a cheat-sheet into some polling place is great.

(12,696 posts)but the fact remains that 'hand counting' ballots - is a solution to a problem that has never been shown to exist. And further, if by some chance did rear it's ugly head at some point in the future - would almost certainly be quickly identified and addressed by election officials.

(29,843 posts)At 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, Gillespie County Republicans completed hand counting more than 8,000 ballots, following through on a decision the county party made months ago amid a statewide push led by individuals who have promoted some of the wildest election conspiracy theories since the 2020 election.

It took four people three hours to count only 77 ballots.

(53,439 posts)Difficult in that it takes longer than if it was just a simple candidate A vs B only on the ballot.

(53,439 posts)That is they do a hand count to see if results match up with the paper ballots. Same as matching up with electronic results.
And they have election workers from both parties participating.
