Capital facilities tax on November ballots
SHERIDAN Sheridan County voters will be faced with a choice on their general election ballots: maintain a 6% sales and use tax or reject the additional penny to have a 5% sales and use tax.
Voters have approved the specific purpose capital facilities sales and use tax on the ballot six times since 1989, collecting between $20.25 million and $40 million for various water, road and other infrastructure improvements in Sheridan County and its municipalities. More than 76% of voters voted in favor of the most recent proposition during the 2020 election, approving the $40 million tax collection for projects around the county.
If approved by voters, the Nov. 5 general election proposition would again collect $40 million for various infrastructure improvements. The governmental entities typically use the funds to pay for match requirements on state or federal grants.
The town of Clearmont would receive $800,000, which is $240,000 more than its allocation from the 2020 proposition. The towns funds would help pay for water, sewer and street infrastructure improvement projects.
