Election workers will begin helping Wisconsin nursing home residents Monday with voting
On Monday, special election workers can begin helping people living in Wisconsin nursing homes and other long-term care facilities to fill out absentee ballots for the Nov. 5 election.
Nuances of the absentee voting procedure for long-term care facilities typically receive little attention. The state law aims to make voting available for people who might lack transportation to a polling place or who are confined to a long-term care setting, among other circumstances.
The COVID-19 pandemic took an toll on older adults and people with disabilities when it came to voting. In spring 2020, state elections officials made temporary changes to absentee voting procedures which were later used to drive false claims about widespread voter fraud in the contest between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
This fall, the long-term care voting process will take place as usual, allowing voters to choose between Trump or Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the presidential race. Here's more about what happened last time and how it will work this time.
