Wisconsin governor signs order for redistricting commission

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers signed an executive order Monday creating what he promised would be a nonpartisan commission to draw new legislative maps next year for the Legislature to consider, a move Republicans have rejected as a sham.

Even though the Legislature won't be forced to vote on the maps the commission creates, the Democratic Evers said he hopes it will push them to consider less partisan maps.

At the very least, it will create a more public process than in 2011 when Republicans met in secret to draw the maps that were released with little time for public review or input before they were passed.

“People should be able to choose their elected officials, not the other way around," Evers said at a news conference in his Capitol office where he was surrounded by Democrats, including Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes and Attorney General Josh Kaul.

“Certainly I would hope that they see the light and adopt our maps."

He sounded like Pete when he said this: “People should be able to choose their elected officials, not the other way around."

They are both right on this score.

I am still worried about the WI State Supreme Court screwing the Democrats in redistricting, but the WI Dems have an opportunity this spring to cut into the Conservative majority. Not sure if there are any more Cons on the Court coming up for election to 2021 or 2022.

Here in Lyme disease country, many times you'll see Republicans running unopposed (and still raising $50,000 for a nothing office). Naturally, a lot of this $ comes from John Menard, the brothers who own Kwik Trip, and the Uline family.

Sure, the Government Of Putin will reject it. They can't win if they can't cheat.

Their state is so gerrymandered Democrats would have to get 70% of the vote to have a majority in the state houses, or something like that.

I, this Democrat, is sick of a "system" that helps Republicans keep power by gerrymandering and basically screwing voters.

https://rewire.news/article/2018/11/19/wisconsin-democrats-won-more-votes-in-the-midterms-in-the-legislature-it-didnt-matter

With 54% of the votes the Dems get 1/3 of the seats.

We get screwed in Wisconsin.

To assure a Wisc Dem win, promote Voting At Home using absentee balloting. Take two weeks to look over your ballot, research your local candidates and then vote in the comfort of your own home. It may get the 20% and young people to participate.
I never understood why the WisDems never promote this simple and effective voting method.
I am voting today, Feb 1st, or maybe tomorrow during Superbowl halftime??....because I can.

You need no reason, other than you want to.

Go to https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/
1) Click on Vote Absentee at the top of the page.
2) Enter your name (exactly as spelled on your Driver's License--nicknames or what you like to be called will be rejected)
3) Enter your birth date using the format: XX/XX/XXXX ( Month-Day-Year)
4) Request an Absentee Ballot, for all elections in 2020.
Your ballot will be in the mail within a few days.

It's that simple.
