I don't think our long time friend/neighbor in Door County is going to make it.

We were called by his wife today who reported that his cancer treatments have weakened him considerably. This marvelous, generous and stalwart Dem during some rough times for Dems in WI is undergoing lots of chemo and other treatments for throat cancer. His wife told us of his condition and my husband talked to him briefly, wishing him the best. The poor guy was too weak to talk or hold the phone for long. It was sad.

This sucks.

My husband is from WI and experienced DC as a vacation spot for many years. We went every summer until a few years ago when age and disability prevented us for making the trek from CT. The house was simply not handicap accessible for my husband and he sold it to his neice. Fortunately, the appreciation of DC property had increased considerably and he got a very nice amount of money for it. Plus, it kept the property "in the family."

I am sad. I wrote some of the art essays I published here on DU on trips there. It was so quiet and peaceful it was conducive to my ability to concentrate and write.

A great place and a healing place.
