COPE voting results are in: Washington State Labor Council announces federal and state endorsements for 2026
Washingtons labor movement is ready for the August and November elections.
The Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO today announced the results of its 2026 Committee on Political Education (COPE) endorsing convention, held in South Park with several hundred delegates from six hundred and fifty local unions participating. One hundred and twenty candidates have so far succeeded in earning the WSLCs support this cycle. Additional endorsements could be made this summer.
Endorsements were considered in each of Washingtons ten congressional districts, for 122 legislative candidates, and for candidates in each Washington Supreme Court position, the federations communications director Sarah Tucker explained in a statement. Delegates also considered endorsements for three initiatives. Delegates overwhelmingly voted to oppose IP26-645, an initiative to repeal a millionaires tax that will fund essential public services, as well as two other initiatives, IL26-001 and IL26-638.
All three of those measures are spearheaded by right wing mega-millionaire Brian Heywood, who has replaced Tim Eyman as the right wings initiatives guy.
