COPE voting results are in: Washington State Labor Council announces federal and state endorsements for 2026

Washington’s labor movement is ready for the August and November elections.

The Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO today announced the results of its 2026 Committee on Political Education (COPE) endorsing convention, held in South Park with several hundred delegates from six hundred and fifty local unions participating. One hundred and twenty candidates have so far succeeded in earning the WSLC’s support this cycle. Additional endorsements could be made this summer.

“Endorsements were considered in each of Washington’s ten congressional districts, for 122 legislative candidates, and for candidates in each Washington Supreme Court position,” the federation’s communications director Sarah Tucker explained in a statement. “Delegates also considered endorsements for three initiatives. Delegates overwhelmingly voted to oppose IP26-645, an initiative to repeal a millionaires tax that will fund essential public services, as well as two other initiatives, IL26-001 and IL26-638.”

All three of those measures are spearheaded by right wing mega-millionaire Brian Heywood, who has replaced Tim Eyman as the right wing’s “initiatives guy.”
