US 2 reopens in Monroe after herbicide spill

MONROE — U.S. 2 was shut down in Monroe for over three hours Wednesday morning due to a herbicide spill, authorities said.

Around 9:15 a.m., Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue announced the closure west of Fryelands Boulevard. A semitruck rear-ended a pickup with a box trailer.

Fire officials identified the chemical spill as an herbicide mixture used in agriculture. Fifteen to 20 gallons of chemicals spilled from the trailer.

Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue contained the leak and handed over the scene to the state Department of Ecology for further cleanup.
