Rep. Pramila Jayapal advocates for universal, single-payer healthcare ahead of 2024 Democratic National Convention
Washington States own Representative Pramila Jayapal addressed a pre-convention conference of progressive activists and organizers the Chicago Teachers Union headquarters on Sunday, speaking about the importance of pursuing Medicare for All as the 2024 Democratic National Convention kicked off with a plethora of welcome events.
The Seattle-area Democrat is the Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the largest ideological grouping of House Democrats.
In her speech to two hundred or so attendees, Jayapal lauded Democrats accomplishments while emphasizing the pitfalls of the current healthcare system.
As Democrats, we have expanded access to healthcare for sure, through the [Patient Protection and] Affordable Care Act, through additional subsidies during COVID for the most vulnerable, through finally passing legislation that for the first time makes big pharma negotiate the price of prescription drugs.

Many countries which universal healthcare do not have single payer. Private insurance is highly regulated however.
I'm currently on Medicare. Only part A is free, but I paid into it for nearly fifty years. Parts B and D both cost money.
