More than 54,000 free opioid overdose reversal kits coming to Washington

The first of more than 54,000 naloxone kits began arriving in Washington this week, state Attorney General Bob Ferguson said Wednesday.

The kits will be available to the public at no cost through the Department of Health’s statewide mail-order naloxone program, managed by the People’s Harm Reduction Alliance.

Teva Pharmaceuticals is delivering the opioid overdose reversal kits in quarterly shipments over the next two years as part of a December 2022 resolution to a lawsuit by the state over the company’s role in fueling the opioid epidemic. Washington has won $1.29 billion so far through lawsuits targeting corporations related to the opioid epidemic.

“Our lawsuits against opioids manufacturers are providing resources to combat the fentanyl and opioid crisis to every part of the state,” Ferguson said. “These kits will make immediate impacts in that fight.”

I’ve got it in my glove box. I think there are 2 doses in it. I just figured in the area I’m living it might come in handy.

2. I was prescribed a naxolone kit along w/ my painkillers when I blew my knee last month

Not something I was worried about, but it's a great practice when prescribing opioids.

3. Picked one up last week for free

City rededication of a park with the mayor in attendance. Multiple city entities had booths/tabletops with swag. Dept of health has free narcan kits. Fired department had little lego people like pens in three skin shades. Pink, tan and brown so kids could see themselves aspirationally to be firefighters. Thought it was cool on both fronts.
