Grizzlies to return to North Cascades, feds confirm

DARRINGTON — Once again, grizzly bears will soon roam the North Cascades, where biologists have considered them extinct for decades.

On Thursday, the National Park Service, in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, announced a decision to transport grizzlies from British Columbia, Montana or Wyoming in hopes of restoring the historic population in northern Washington. The agencies said there isn’t a start date yet for relocation.

Under the plan, staff from the Park Service and Fish and Wildlife will release three to seven bears every year, until there is a population of 25 bears. The agencies expect to release 11 more bears after that, with the hope the population could reach 200 bears in a century.

“I’m very thrilled that this is going to happen,” said Chris Servheen, a retired grizzly recovery coordinator for U.S. Fish and Wildlife, on Thursday. “We have very few chances to be stewards for grizzly bears in the lower 48 states.”

but fear for their safety. Too many gun crazy idiots want to prove their manly hunting skills. And whenever push comes to shove it's always the animals that will lose.

Lots of backpackers, climbers, and hikers are going to start carrying pistols though.

I misread it and got real excited. I thought it said North Carolina Mountains. We need a huge predator to thin out the theme park Numbers in our back country. Predators make the back country much more exciting.
Our only threat here is a few venomous snakes and idiot humans with guns.

Fruits and roots. Bob cats and cougars, (cougars still extremely rare if at all according to wildlife pros)
Are not eating any tourists. Spent 30 years teaching Wildlife science, most are in the research and law enforcement wildlife agencies, so I have a little insight.
Wild boars need to eat more people than roots too.
People went nuts over reintroduction Of Red Wolves
Thinking they would eat them, so many got killed by MAGA type super men. A total failed attempt.
Bring in all the African big cats, and a hyena population. Make our wilderness exciting again.
I know, not very liberal appropriate, but thin the weakest out of our herd for a healthy population.
