ALEXANDRIA, Va. (7News) — More than 3/4 of Virginians admit they’re having a hard time affording groceries and more than 40% report at least one sign of food insecurity.

7News went to Alexandria to see how a locally-based organization and school are partnering to address the problem.

On Wednesday, Islamic Relief USA joined students at Episcopal High School in Alexandria to pack thousands of meals for needy families.

Organizers told 7News the goal is to honor the legacy of service exemplified by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
