Mail in Ballot question.

Reading through the absentee ballot instructions. I noticed under the FAQ they were sending out Green Notices requiring people to send in a copy of a photo ID with their ballot if you got one.

Does anybody remember them doing this in the past? I. e. Have they always done this or is it new?

I've voted in VA for my entire life so I didn't always read the ballot instructions. Because I don't trust Youngkin, I read through them today and was surprised they were requiring some people to send in a pic of their ID.

** Special Federal ID Requirements For Certain First Time Absentee By Mail Voters

For persons who registered to vote in Virginia by mail, federal law requires them to show identification (ID) when voting for the first time in a federal election if they did not send a copy of one of these IDs with their voter registration applications. Recent legislation has eliminated the differences in acceptable identification for in-person voting. Therefore, the special federal ID requirements only apply to certain absentee voters by mail who will be notified by a notice explaining the requirements sent with their absentee ballot. Voters who receive a notice about this special requirements need to include a copy of any of the following types of ID with the voted ballot:

- A current and valid photo ID (for example a driver’s license);
- or a current utility bill, bank statement, government check or paycheck that shows name and address;
- or another government document that shows name and address (for example a voter card). If the voter returns an absentee ballot by mail without a copy of one of these forms of ID, the absentee ballot will be treated as a provisional ballot and counted only if the voter provides a copy of ID to the electoral board by the deadline applicable to all voters.

2. We always vote be absentee ballot

and take to the local drop box at the registrars office. Never had to provide a copy of any ID. I would call the registrar's office first thing in the AM.

Others may have a different experience, but we have never seen that before. Hopefully our mail-in ballot will be here soon. Want to get it in ASAP!

6. Check online to get an idea of it's arrival.

My ballot was issued on 9/16 arrived 9/21 so could be about a week.

I checked and our ballots were mailed on 9/19/2024.

and were supposed to be in today's mail (according to informed delivery) but our mail was not delivered today.

3. Don't quote me because I am not sure.

I think this is something new and Ohio is trying to do this as well.

It won't take effect in Ohio this year but they will ram it through as fast as they can.

4. Don't know about the ID issue but mailing anything in Virginia might not be a good idea.

Especially anywhere near Richmond or, as I’ve heard, NoVa. Mail is taking forever.

7. Learned the hard way. Post office lost a ballot of mine

and I ended up voting three times (legally) in one election. I now drop it in a early voting box or location.
