Speculation continues about the removal of Confederate statues in Charlottesville

Yesterday I posted about the park having trees and signs removed. I posted links to some tweets about it that were later deleted by the Tweeter. They were rather speculative. Since the tweets were gone I deleted my OP.

Today the parks have been newly fenced off and parking prohibited on the adjacent streets for tomorrow.

The City hasn't has anything to say about this.

The City Council allocated one million dollars to remove the statues earlier this week.

The waiting is difficult and speculation continues.

This newspaper reporter didn't speculate so it is likely this Tweet will remain up.

I can fully understand their concern (even at the expense of transparency).

There were armed "patriots" hanging out in the vicinity to protect the statues against vandalism up to a month ago. I hadn't heard of them lately.

At the special meeting to allocate funds:

“This is just putting funding in place so that we can either remove, store or cover any or all of the three statues. ... Any type of permanent dispossession, transfer of ownership or otherwise, would have to come back to you as a council for approval and a vote.”

Looks like it is finally happening.
