Bobcat killed after attacking 2 people in Upper Valley

HARTFORD, Vt. (WCAX) Authorities say two people were attacked by a bobcat in the Upper Valley Wednesday. Wildlife officials think the animal may have been rabid.

The first attack happened Wednesday morning at an apartment complex in Wilder. The bobcat bit a woman outside her home on Candlelight Terrace. She was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police then got a report of a second attack off Prospect Street in White River Junction. Police responded and found the animal under a vehicle. Fish and Wildlife officials say the bobcat then charged a warden who fired his shotgun, killing it.

"I'm not going to assume because there are a lot of things that could cause an animal to be unpredictable. It's wildlife. But there is a good likelihood it could be rabies," said Lt. Dennis Amsden with Vermont Fish and Wildlife.
