State committee approves plan for homeless shelter in South Salt Lake

A state homeless committee, as expected, has put its stamp of approval on a plan to move forward with a homeless center in South Salt Lake.

Voting without debate and only one vote against, the state Homeless Coordinating Committee approved moving forward with plans for the center at 3380 South 1000 West in South Salt Lake.

That puts a cap on six weeks of contentious meetings organized by Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, and it marks the beginning of more work yet to come.

"There's no question that the way we're dealing with homelessness now leaves something to be desired," said Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, who leads the committee.
