A true American patriot champions what makes America exceptional: our diversity, freedoms, and ability to compromise to further the cause of democracy. Chip Roy possesses none of that thing. Chip Roy is about as anti-American as they come.

Of course, Chip Roy only feels comfortable Tweeting such nonsense because Republican gerrymandering drew him into a safe district. There used to be a time in modern American politics where advocating for ethnic cleansing for American citizens would have ended your career, but no longer, thanks to Trump.

Congressman Chip Roy wants to “ethnically cleanse” Americans who he disagrees with. This native Marylander needs to read the First Amendment; he needs to read the entire Constitution.

But the indolence of their parents, their aunts, their uncles, their older cousins and, even now, some of their older brothers and sisters are what got Texas made into a Republican trifecta. They could have voted. If they needn’t have had to be fully-informed: they could have made themselves a five-issue short list. They could have asked themselves what was in it for them or if that white guy running for office was blowing smoke instead of treating elections like a long, drawn-out boring version of American Idol, but they didn’t.

And here we are today with Gregg, Dann, and Ken in Austin, Ted in the senate, and Chip as their congressman.

8. The continuing Republican Rule in Texas is heartbreaking

I blame not only the oligarchs, the social reactionaries, but also white tribalism.

One of the most insidious success stories for the Republican Party in Texas is to redistrict out so many white Texas Democrats, leaving their seats in the hands of white Republican reactionaries. This has led to so many of the uninformed, half-asleep voters in so much of Texas voting Republican because they’re white guys. The fact that so many of these voters aren’t millionaires or billionaires and that these reactionaries’ policies hurt them about as hard as people of color just hasn’t made it to their craniums.

Let me also add that I do NOT disapprove of the many non-white Texas Democrats elected before Rove’s underhanded trickery. Texas was never Lily-white and euro-Americans are at most a plurality, not a majority.. But I’d really like to break the ability of the Texas GOP to use white tribalism as an electoral edge here in Texas.
