Faced with ongoing scandals this month involving his allies ties to antisemitic extremists, the leader of the Republican Party of Texas has come out strongly to attack other conservatives whove criticized his friends.
For three weeks, Texas GOP Chair Matt Rinaldi has been defiant in the face of calls from members of his own party to cut ties with Defend Texas Liberty leader Jonathan Stickland, who recently hosted avowed white supremacist Nick Fuentes at his office for nearly seven hours. And hes gone after those whove been critical of Defend Texas Liberty, a political action committee that is funded by two of the Texas GOPs most prolific donors.
Separately, Rinaldi is at the center of a parallel controversy involving a group for young conservatives that he recently embraced despite warnings about its leaders openly antisemitic views and ties to white nationalist figures.
For some Republicans, the dual scandals have raised serious questions about the partys willingness to denounce racists and its leaders proximity to those who embrace them.

(8,280 posts)The Texas GQP wants to be where Abbott and his predecessors ("W" Bush, Rick Perry) have lead it since 1994. They made it acceptable to embrace your worst self and once that becomes acceptable it is very easy, sort of addictive, and that is where the party is. It has become primarily a white grievance party.
