Beto ORourke touts his oft-overlooked background small-business owner as Greg Abbott attacks him as job-killerby Patrick Svitek, Texas Tribune
Facing Republican attacks that he is a threat to the Texas economy, Beto ORourke is playing up a part of his background that has gotten little attention since he burst on the statewide scene: small-business owner.
With GOP Gov. Greg Abbott attacking ORourke as a job-killing socialist, the former El Paso congressman has been increasingly discussing the experience on the campaign trail, and it is the subject of his campaigns first significant paid media. ORourke co-founded Stanton Street Technology Group, an El Paso web-design company, in 1999, and owned it for over a decade.
So Greg Abbott and Beto ORourke only one of them has started a small business and met a payroll every single week for 15 years, ORourke says in a new digital ad, part of an initial $50,000 buy that starts Wednesday.
The economy is a top issue for Abbott, and he has argued ORourke would be disastrous given his support for things like a $15 minimum wage.

(6,756 posts)1. The trouble with Beto O'Rourke is that he makes too much sense.
He knows what Texans need, and he knows how to get it...1 million new jobs!
But, he is going up against the illogical, nonsensical BS of the Republican party.
I love him, and I hope he wins, but I wonder if the average Texas voter is ready for truth.
I wonder if the voters of Texas have had enough of Republican generated fear, anger and hate. I am concerned that they still embrace the lies Abbott spews forth.
Come on Texas, get woke!

He delivered supplies during the freeze. I hope all that carries forward.
