Leading health care organizations in Texas including the Texas Medical Association, Texas Counseling Association and Texas Pediatric Society say gender-affirming care is the best way to provide care to transgender children. Theyre not alone: the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and others agree and have for years.
Heres what you need to know about gender-affirming care, which lies at the heart of the brewing legal and political battles in Texas.
This article contains a great discussion of the types of care that are being attacked by Greg and Ken Paxton

(3,003 posts)It's no different than the asshats at hobby lobby claiming birth control pills are abortifacients. Just because you believe they are, doesn't mean they are.
Your religious belief does not outweigh the science of the matter.
They try to regulate morality and human nature and punish those who fit their image. It's certainly immoral and should be illegal to do what these people to do their neighbors.

(1,962 posts)I know, Abbott and Paxton don't even think we're human, but, we are... And care such as this saves lives. Period. It's not abuse, it's love.
The only people abusing trans kids are Abbott and Paxton. They need to stay the hell out of our lives.

(1,962 posts)First off, before I forget: My eternal thanks for all the time you take to find and post such articles to try to enlighten and educate on this issue, as well as a number of other subjects here on DU.
I know I look back on what I've gone through over the decades, and wish we were as enlightened on trans issues then as we are today. Knowing my own struggles, which have included self-harm, I can only imagine how much easier things have been, and how much less pain there would've been, if I grew up during a better time to be a young trans person.
It's why I'm thankful for all the articles you post, and why I speak up so much - in responsible to articles you post, as well as others. I don't want the trans youth of today to go through the turmoil I did. So, if we can protect them and give them the care they need now? I'm all for it.
It's just a shame that so many like the goons running Texas are so obsessed with doing the opposite.

(1,962 posts)Being LGBTQ is tough enough in this world.. But having good, caring, supportive parents make such a huge difference... You're awesome
And I imagine many of us are sickened by Paxton and Abbott.. Because they could truly do things to make the world a better place for LGBTQ's - especially the youth.. Instead, they do the opposite.
