SC-HD116: GOP candidate in Charleston Statehouse race caught threatening student's parent in 2022 bus incident
James Teeple, the Republican candidate in one of Charleston's most competitive Statehouse races this year, told a school bus driver in 2022 to pass along an unsettling message to an elementary school student after Teeple was convinced one of his children had been bullied.
As the bus was stopped, Teeple told the driver through an open door he was going to show up at the student's house and "kick his dad's ass" following an alleged scuffle between the students over a saved bus seat, according to a sheriff's office incident report and a video.
"I appreciate you," Teeple is heard saying in a calm voice toward the bus driver on the recording before walking back to his vehicle.
Teeple then proceeded to follow the bus as it dropped off students on Johns Island, apparently waiting for a particular child to exit, according to a report from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
