South Carolina
Related: About this forumHello All! I'm thinking of moving to SC and need some info....
If I move to SC, it would be to a 2 bedroom apartment, and I need to know what monthly utilities run to plan a budget.
Right now, I'm looking at the Myrtle Beach area. Are the apartments in this area heavily populated by college students? I'm a senior citizen and am looking for a "serene" environment.
What are towns within 50 miles of Horry County that I can investigate for potential housing.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

There are some apartment buildings near Conway Hospital and Coastal Carolina Univ. I lived in town in the Historic District.

(241 posts)I'm not a coast guy. I prefer the Piedmont and Upcountry.
If the coast is your goal but looking for more laid back you may want to look into Colleton County and Walterboro.

(241 posts)May fit the bill. Florence is a bit further away but it is on I-20/I-95 and has a good hospital system.

I think there are apartments on the nearby mainland that should be available. Hurricanes are an occasional worry.

(572 posts)if the wallet can't handle head a bit up 17 and there's Surfside Beach; I raised two children there and loved it; very family friendly, good mixture of society. Utilities were reasonable, our 3 bedroom home ran about $250/mo for most services (power, phone, water/sewer.
Hurricanes are to be expected. Most are wind speeds of 100mph or less and are not usually destructive. I did stay (sent the kids away) for Hugo but that one was exceptional. It was an experience I'd rather not relive.

(113,788 posts)We were staying at Pawleys the week Kerry was announcing for presidency in Charleston. We woke up early and headed down there. We ended up sitting near Max Cleland.
Little blm was not yet 3 and absolutely loved Kerry the way other toddlers loved Barney.

(572 posts)for you. Often wonder what would have been the result had Hillary accepted his offer for VP. It was polled a winner at the time. Kerry is an outstanding example of what this country can produce.
