After contacting my pharmacy, two physicians, and Lane County Health

I've learned one cannot yet get the 3rd Covid vaccine booster shot, as they are waiting for authority and instructions from the Oregon Pharmacy Board and Oregon Health Authority. So I've written Gov.Brown to urge them on.

Who qualifies for a third dose?

According to the CDC, the populations below qualify. People who have:

Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
Advanced or untreated HIV infection
Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

At this point, there is no recommendation for the general public.

But, the patients need a clear understanding of what their own criteria are that qualifies them (should definitely have a discussion with their physician) as most pharmacists are not likely to be that much help with some less obvious issues. I know because I overheard one telling a patient last night that asplenia (loss of spleen) was not sufficient. Since I was only shopping, I took her aside subtly, introduced myself and my qualifications/background d, and explained why asplenia was in the last category of chronic immune-suppressive conditions, including chronic (end-stage) renal failure. Most pharmacists naturally seem to be focused on looking for drug-suppressive/induced conditions...

Was hoping to get it today after my appointment with my hematologist. He actually checked with the department administering the vaccines and was told they weren’t yet ready to start giving third shots.

7. What happens if someone lies and says they need their first shot but will actually be their 3rd?

If you leave your insurance out of it, not insurance fraud. Asking for a friend. There really should be a system that if an entity has shots about to expire, folks can be on call to get them as a 3rd shot. I really would not want to get in front of people finally seeing the light to get their first shot, but wasting vaccine in this situation is crazy!

So, it is not inconceivable that some pharmacies might identify a prior vaccine if they are linked to others in a chain.
