Eclipse crowds begin to materialize on the Oregon coast, but business isn't booming

With less than 24 hours to go before the eclipse, traffic along the Oregon coast, both on foot and by car, finally began to pick up mid-day Sunday.

Sidewalks in Depoe Bay, dead in the center of the path of totality, teemed with tourists. Parking spots along the sea wall were scarce around noon.

But with the expected crowds smaller and showing up later than anticipated, many businesses along the coastal town's short commercial strip were wondering what to do with the excess food and merchandise they stocked in advance of the big event.

"It's terrible," said Michelle McBroom as she stood in the nearly empty dining room of Chowder Bowl in Depoe Bay. "We have no business."

1. That's because the Oregon coast is one of the rainiest places on the planet?

Nobody goes to such a place to view an eclipse.

Just my supposition.

2. I think that there is a decent crowd showing to watch the eclipse,

but they are not spending a lot of time eating or buying souvenirs. It's a brief event and while ordering extra supplies might be wise, stocking up like it was the holiday season is overblown.
