Local urgent care workers vote to join union, but outcome is under review

Seeking more equitable pay and more say in their jobs, workers at nine Eugene Urgent Care clinics, mostly in the Eugene-Springfield area, appear to have narrowly voted in favor of a union Thursday night, union officials said.

But the vote was so close, with enough votes being challenged, that the outcome is not yet clear, union and clinic officials said.

The workers include medical assistants, X-ray machine operators, paramedics, medical records specialists and other staff — not doctors or nurses, said Steven Ward, health care director for SEIU Local 49.

They work at Eugene Urgent Care clinics in Eugene, Springfield, Junction City, Harrisburg, Veneta, Pleasant Hill and Roseburg, according to the National Labor Relations Board.
