Lawsuit seeks to block Oklahoma turnpike bond financing

A lawsuit filed with the Oklahoma Supreme Court on Friday contends the way the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority has been funding road projects is unconstitutional.

That funding relies on bond financing. The bonds are issued under a state statute the lawsuit, filed by Oklahoma City attorney Jerry Fent, alleges violates a constitutional provision against logrolling, or combining multiple subjects into one law.

The statute in question states that bonds issued by the authority can be used for multiple turnpikes in the state system.

The suit contends this violates a constitutional provision that laws must embrace only a single subject.
