Sand Springs, Oklahoma Couple Says They Were Fired To Offset Cost Of Affordable Care Act

Carl's Jr., Wendy's, Dunkin' Donuts, Baskin Robbins, and Taco Bell are looking to slash hours for employees to avoid paying health coverage for employees.

Seems this loophole is going to cause more problems as we get closer to mandatory health care being rolled out to everyone. Is it just a coincidence that Congress didn't consider businesses would just cut full time workers hours to avoid paying?

Many small, and large, businesses will try this gimmick to get around paying insurance. They will even save some money this way in the short term. It won't take the management long to realize that part-time managers will not have any loyalty to the company. Also, the people who are working part-time will not be of the same caliber as the full time workers that are being replaced. Remember, these part-time workers probably have two, or even three, jobs, and they are working no harder than the compensation that they are receiving. The good workers will have to find ways to cope until this truth hits management, and by then, many of the better workers will have found better jobs, working for better run companies. In the long run, this practice will be costly for business.

When you have health insurance companies with executive making millions a year in salary, plus benefits and perks on top of that, it's obvious that costs are being padded--a lot--to cover the cost of doing business.

There is something truly wrong with a supposedly civilized society that will allow people to die without care so that a CEO can make that kind of money.

Many areas do not have competition in the health care market, so there's no way to keep costs down. You cannot have "the best health care in the world" when the profit of a private sector corporation is in the equation. These companies have profited off the backs of people for decades, it's time to level the playing field so EVERYONE has equal access to health care that's not dependent on their bank account.
