Oklahoma Capitol's centennial marked with time capsule

Oklahoma leaders presented a time capsule and some artifacts Monday to commemorate the state Capitol's centennial.

The artifacts will be placed in a large stainless steel box, which will be stored in the Capitol basement once renovations in the area are complete. Later this year, air inside the capsule will be replaced with an inert gas to help preserve the items.

Charles Leo Peters brought his 3-month-old son to the state Capitol with hopes that his son, also named Charles, will live to see the time capsule's unveiling in 100 years.

Peters, of Oklahoma City, said he attended the ceremony because he's interested in state history and wanted to see it being made.
