Felony rape charges against former Norman North wrestler dropped; Shipman pleads no contest to misdemeanors
NORMAN Former Norman North wrestler Tanner Shipman pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges Friday after Garvin County officials dropped three felony counts of first-degree rape by instrumentation.
Shipman, who was among four students charged in connection with sexual assaults in 2016 on two victims, was 18 at the time of the assaults and was the only student charged as an adult.
The charges against the other three students were dropped, making Shipman the only one of the four to incur legal penalty for his alleged role in sexually assaulting a 12-year-old and 16-year-old on a team bus returning from a wrestling meet. Shipman wont face any jail time.
According to reports, Shipman pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor counts of assault and battery and was sentenced to six months probation.
