Former senator makes first court appearance in child prostitution case

NORMAN — Former state Sen. Ralph Shortey was banned Friday from using social media and was ordered to have no contact with the key witness against him in his child prostitution case.

Shortey, R-Oklahoma City, made his first court appearance Friday afternoon in the criminal case. He remains free on $100,000 bail.

At the arraignment, Cleveland County Special Judge Lori Puckett advised Shortey of his right to a jury trial and other rights. She also ordered him off social media while his case is pending and to have no contact with the witness.

Such restrictions are routine in Cleveland County District Court in sex crime cases.
