University of Oklahoma police investigate officer in wake of killing spree

The University of Oklahoma Police Department is investigating one of its own in the wake of this week's shootings that left a former Norman North High School principal and two others dead.

In June 2015, Cayann Deffner filed an application to dismiss a protective order against Michael Deffner in which she wrote, “Michael has a friend that is an OU police officer, who notifies Michael any time anyone goes to the police about him.”

She named Greg Vollmer as the officer and wrote he “told Michael that my daughter and I had filed for (victim protection orders) before he was served.”

Late Tuesday, Timothy Michael Deffner, who went by Michael, shot and killed lawyer and former Norman North High School principal Bryan Young at his Norman home, then drove across town and killed his estranged wife, Cayann, before later turning the gun on himself as officers closed in on him in rural Pottawatomie County. Young was Cayann Deffner's divorce attorney.
