Dr. Amy Acton mulls run for Ohio governor in 2026

Youngstown native and former Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton is reportedly considering a run at state politics, including a potential run to be Ohio governor in 2026. At this point I wonder if we can break the logjam in statewide offices. Xavier Breath Aug 20 #1
If only we can un-gerrymander the state and get more Dems in office. Diamond_Dog Aug 20 #2
Agree, that would help with the statehouse and with the US Congress, Xavier Breath Aug 20 #4

Apart from Sherrod they have an iron grip on the state. Husted will just run away from any good DeWine did regarding covid, and they will smear her mercilessly because she actually did her job during the pandemic. Good luck to her.

Husted is blatantly corrupt over the First Energy bribery scandal but Ohio wingnuts won’t care as long as he has an R after his name.

but won't help with Governor, SoS, AG, etc. If we're truly close to the 55/45 split I keep seeing mentioned, then how do we overcome that? There's been a Democratic governor in office for only four of the past 33 years. Hell, even Oklahoma had a Democratic governor for 12 years during that period, so how do we fix it? I'm genuinely asking. Maybe it's not fixable?

But maybe, just maybe, if Kamala Harris becomes our next President, it may usher in a new era of women in high places. Many will see that a woman can do just as well or better elected to high offices. (I know, it’s Ohio … but I can dream, can’t I?). Dr. Acton was so strong and smart during the Covid epidemic.

I dream of the day Ohio wakes up and stops electing idiots like Vance and Jordan.

I remember seeing her videos during the dark days of the pandemic. Her empathy and her ability to inspire kids were quite moving:

Unfortunately, she was basically hounded out of her public health job by right-wing anti-science idiots:

She has a remarkable life story and an impressive record in medical and philanthropic work:

I hope it works out for Dr. Acton to run and serve as Ohio governor. Whatever she does, I’m sure she’ll find a way to make a difference.
