Next month Issue 1, (if passed), will enshrine in the Ohio Constitution the right to obtain a legal abortion up to the point of viability. This will override the republican majority law here that allows only a six week window for termination, and the GOP in Columbus are panic stricken, pulling out everything they have to defeat it.
Their dirty tactics began in a special election last August to change the constitution to require a supermajority of 60% to amend the law. That didn't work, so now they've resorted to begging and outright lies, like claims that an abortion can be administered in the ninth month and 12 year old children can get a sex change behind their parent's back. Their yard signs say: "Vote No on Issue 1". "Protect Parent Rights". Nonsense.
In an act of desperation, the Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose penned a misleading editorial in the newspaper(s) last week pleading for a "NO" vote on Issue 1, but I don't think he reads what he writes.
He opens the letter by stating he's the father of three young girls. He says raising them gives him plenty to worry about, but he reads between the lines of Issue 1 to point out the one thing that really concerns him now. He fears that they may get pregnant and secretly get an abortion (or a sex change) without his consent. He feels he should be there to love, guide, and care for her during this time. He believes she shouldn't have to face it alone. It's what close Ohio families like his do.
Now I'm thinking maybe his first concern should be why his daughter fears going to him with her situation. Why does she have to keep it a secret and go behind his back? Since we know he and his allies passed an extreme law to ban abortions, she would know she had no choice in the matter. If Frank LaRose wants a grandchild, she would damn well bear and deliver one for him. His daughter has no say in the matter! "Tell us the name of your rapist, honey. He can help us pick out a name for our baby".
