Methodist minister faces hearing over his same-sex marriage
Despite a hearing today to begin determining the Rev. David Merediths official fate in the United Methodist Church, the pastor says he wont let anything tear him away from the ministry and the people who need him.
Meredith, 61, who broke United Methodist rules when he married his same-sex partner of almost 30 years last year in Columbus, is facing a West Ohio Conference Committee on Investigation hearing Sunday in Columbus.
No matter what the outcome of the hearing, and a potential subsequent church trial that could end with his credentials being taken away, Meredith said he wont stop preaching.
I am not leaving because theres still gay kids, gay families and gay spouses in United Methodist churches all over Christendom and Im not going to abandon them to this kind of hate, said Meredith, pastor at Clifton United Methodist Church in Cincinnati.
