Gov. Cooper says 'strong' people wear face coverings as sign of compassion

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Snip...

“We need more people to wear masks,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “This piece of protection may save your life or the lives of your loved ones.”
Cooper said they’re in the process of figuring out what a state mandate would look like for face coverings. He said they expect to make an announcement next week.

Starting Friday at 4 p.m., face masks will be required in Raleigh.

...snip...

“The message is [COVID-19] is out in our communities and we need to do everything we can to slow that spread,” said Dr. Mandy Cohen with NCDHHS.

Snip...

“Regardless of whether it’s a law or a store requirement, wearing a face-covering when you are around other people slows the spread of the virus,” said Cooper. “We’ve got to remove the politics out of all of this. We’ve got to realize that strong people wear face coverings because it is a sign of compassion and that you actually care about people.”

1. Absolutely. I had to tell my sister this the other day. Some get offended if you scold them about

masks if they’re close I have had them say “I don’t have anything.” So dumb. I told my sister the other day that it’s not whether you have anything, it’s being considerate enough that you assume you do have something and you act to protect those you love from it.

I told her daughter, my niece, that it’s quite possible one of our family members could end up hospitalized and I could envision the discussion where somebody asks “how did they catch it?” I told her the answer would be “You gave it to her” and asked her how that would make everyone feel.

People are so effing inconsiderate.

2. Strong governors order face masks to be worn in public. Period.

It's beyond me why Cooper hasn't ordered people to wear masks. Lord knows people around here are too stupid to do so voluntarily. I am so tired of risking my life to go out to get groceries and TP while so many fools in the stores are ignoring the signs that say keep a 6 foot distance.

Last time I was grocery shopping a well-dressed middle aged white man informed me my mask would not protect me from the virus. I could have informed him it's there to protect him, but I just backed away to get a safe distance from his ignorant spewing.

And the NC covid death rate goes up. And my county covid death rate goes up.

I may work up enough courage to venture out to the stores again tomorrow.

3. Stop with the "strong people," "acts of compassion" or "actually caring about people" entreaties.

Enact a mandate. Fine these imbeciles $100. each time they're caught not wearing a damned mask in public. Just like not wearing car seatbelts, or exceeding speed limits.
