North Carolina lawmakers threaten UNC, NC State's ACC status if league boycotts state

North Carolina lawmakers are threatening the ACC membership of the University of North Carolina and North Carolina State if the conference boycotted the state again.

Republican representatives Bert Jones, Chris Millis, Mark Brody and Jeff Collins have proposed House Bill 728, that says if a college conference boycotts North Carolina, then state schools that are a part of that conference would be prohibited from extending the grant of media rights.

North Carolina and NC State are state schools that would fit that description.

Duke and Wake Forest are private schools, so their ACC status would not be affected if HB 728 became law.

The legislation states that if "a conference within an intercollegiate athletic association" enacts a boycott on the state, any public school in that conference will send notice that it "intends to withdraw from the conference no later than when the assignment of its media rights expire."

They can save money in their athletic programs because no one will be signing up or watching the teams anymore. These lawmakers should be sent back to school.
