Man indicted for attacking mother with pruning shears
SANTA FE A Santa Cruz man was indicted on Thursday by a grand jury in First Judicial District Court for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, concealing identity and use or possession of drug paraphernalia after he allegedly attacked his mother with pruning shears.
On April 8, Santa Fe police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Tuscany Apartments on Chavez Road around 3 a.m. There they found Cassandra Fernandez with blood and mucus running down her face and head. Officers discovered a large wound on the top of her head, a deep puncture wound above her left eyebrow and two large slash marks on her neck. According to a police report of the incident, she told officers, My son Jacob hit me.
Officers found blood on a wall in a hallway and a pool of blood in the bathroom as well.
Jacob Fernandez, 21, was found on foot at the intersection of St. Francis Drive and Siringo Road, where he told officers his name was Joaquin Rodriguez. Fernandez had blood on his left hand and left leg of his pants, and a pair of black garden shears that had blood on the tip were found in his right pocket. Officers also found a glass pipe with marijuana residue on it.
