An Ocean County man was convicted last Friday of defrauding the federal Head Start Program of millions of dollars through a non-profit he was associated with, U.S. District Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams announced on Monday.
Arie Rangott, 54, of Toms River was convicted by a New York jury of conspiracy to defraud the federal Head Start Program, filing false documents and obstructing a federal administrative proceeding. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 10, 2024.
By secretly exploiting a non-profit entity for personal gain, Arie Rangott defrauded the federal government and undermined the publics trust in the Head Start program, Williams said.
Prosecutors accused Rangott of operating as the shadow executive director of Project Social Care Head Start, a non-profit that operated in the New York City area.
