MANCHESTER, N.H. —
A New Hampshire resident has died of the mosquito-borne illness Eastern equine encephalitis, health officials said Tuesday.

Family identified the person as 41-year-old Steven Perry of Hampstead. Health officials said Perry was hospitalized with a severe central nervous system disease and later died.

Perry's mother Judith said he was young and healthy and she can't believe a mosquito is to blame.

EEE is a rare but serious disease transmitted by mosquitoes. The last reported human EEE infection in New Hampshire was in 2014, when three cases were identified, and two people died.
