Former Long Pine City Councilman pleads guilty

AINSWORTH — A former Long Pine City Councilman is scheduled to be sentenced next month after pleading guilty last month to two felonies.

Craig Bernbeck, 57, Long Pine, who resigned from the Long Pine City Council in 2010, pleaded guilty in Brown County District Court to attempted terroristic threats and possession of a controlled substance, according to court records.

Both are Class IV felony charges punishable by a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a fine of $10,000.

In 2002, Bernbeck, who then lived in Stanton, helped to lead a statewide petition effort, that among other things, would have made it more difficult to recall elected officials.

Bernbeck is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday, Nov. 14.
