Related: About this forumWind storm across Montana tonight!
Geeze, we had a blast come through here half an hour ago that sounded like a freight train, made a mess out back.
I'm guessing it was >70mph when it passed through here.
When I turned on the lights out back to look, it was like one of those hurricane videos only it was fallen leaves and dust going sideways at high velocity. It lasted for over 40 seconds, I wasn't sure what to do. There's no basement here and big trees all around.
I checked the NWS and there's a wind warning on for a couple more hours!

(24,902 posts)wind is terrible when its flatline ...
✌🏼
It was a scary minute and we're still having gusts but nothing like that one blast. If there wasn't a fence between the patio and the back lot that leads to the pasture, I'd be having to fetch the patio furniture, not lightweight, from the other end of the pasture. There will be limbs to pick up tomorrow.
Otherwise, all's okay... wind is a normal thing here but big gusts over 60mph are something to be wary of anywhere.

(3,823 posts)We just spent 9 weeks in western Montana, left 9 days ago.
Unbelievably beautiful area. Too many tRump flags & signs, but still couldn't take away our awe at the mountains, rivers, streams & beauty.
We hope to come back, & hope Bullock can defeat that assho.. rePug he's running against.
Stay safe...

(92,378 posts)The beauty of nature is soul healing but it can also turn dangerous in a heartbeat. I'm in a rather safe spot, just haven't had any real bad weather for a while and it caught me by surprise. The good thing is that we brought in all our tomatoes and zucchini today, good timing, I'd say.
We're supposed to have a major change in the weather tomorrow with snow and rain and much cooler temps thereafter.

(3,823 posts)I feel sorry for those who haven't seen the majesty of the US & Canada.
We have spent the last 6 years traveling in our motorhome from coast to coast across Canada & the US.
We bought the rv with 1.6 miles on it in Nov 2014. It now has almost 57k miles on it, which includes 2 trips to Alaska.
YOU ONLY HAVE SO MUCH TIME ON EARTH, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH IT?

(23,988 posts)I was blowing/raking leaves and cleaning the chicken coop...when I was in the coop, all of my girls came running like they were on fire...a blast of wind hit the side of the coop that almost knocked me down. I sat with the girls until they felt like perching and stayed with them until the storm weakened. It was nuts.

(92,378 posts)It lasted a long time for a gust. It happened right around 7:45.
I can still hear a lot of wind out there, this house is pretty solid and you normally have look outside to see if it's windy because you can't really hear it. But that blast had the house almost shaking. I went out and closed a couple outer windows. Yikes.
Supposed to get rain and snow over the next several days. At least the red flag warning has expired.

(23,988 posts)they said they were super happy they werent pulling a trailer the wind was so bad. The blast that came through here was around 3:30-3:45 and it was really something. My house is in a drainage between two mountains and when wind hits, it is a big deal.

(92,378 posts)There have been wind advisories here earlier but I wasn't expecting what that was. There's nothing left out that can be ruined unless it's over 100mph on the property, except tree limbs. There are several willows and cottonwoods that are messy and throw parts all over the place whenever it's gusty but limbs are a different danger.
