Related: About this forumKaren Monahan is motivated by jealousy and Republicanism to demonize Keith Ellison
Karen Monahan dated Keith Ellison for three years. She claims that in 2016, Keith Ellison tried to pull her out of bed so she'd move out. He denies that.
Maybe he did it. Maybe he didn't.
Either way, Monahan is spinning her accusation to ruin his career. She's motivated by jealousy and by having recently become a Republican.
Monahan is Jealous
In January 2017, about two months after Monahan had moved out, she visited Ellison and "left a handwritten journal at his house that insulted one of the women he had started dating, calling her 'old.'
On December 31, 2017, Monahan wrote an angry letter to Keith Ellison's current girlfriend accusing her of stealing him. In March 2018, she sent Ellison texts by her friends implying his current girlfriend is old and ugly.
Monahan became a Republican
On October 1, 2018, Karen Monahan announced that she had hired MN lawyer Andrew Parker. Parker hosts a right-wing radio show for an hour per week. On his show, he praises Donald Trump and tells people to send money to Doug Wardlow. Wardlow (R) is Ellison's opponent in the MN AG race.
On October 5, 2018, Monahan tweeted, "I didn't #WalkAwayFromDemocrats, they #WalkedAway from me, my son, my family and so many others across the country." The WalkAway movement is Republican messaging that Democrats should become Republicans.
Conclusion
I'm a progressive, and I'm voting for Keith Ellison (D) for Minnesota Attorney General. He is pro-choice, pro-worker, and pro-environment. His opponent, Doug Wardlow (R), is the opposite on all those issues.

(9,629 posts)Of course, the Republican hacks at the Star Tribune have been too busy trying to get Keith Ellison's divorce records unsealed then to report on the possibility of a political motivation for the accusations.

(9,629 posts)I haven't been following this whole episode that closely. What was the judge's rationale for releasing the divorce records? I thought the whole purpose of putting things under seal was to prevent fishing expeditions like this one. It's not like the information in the divorce was relevant to some other criminal proceeding.
The only person hurt by this decision was Ellison's ex-wife, who is a private citizen and did not deserve having her personal issues made public. If this was some sort of whimsical decision made by the judge without some sort of legal precedence or statutory obligation, he or she needs to be voted out. If there is a possibility of partisan motivations, they need to be thoroughly investigated to determine if they were bribed or if their conduct deserves disbarment.

If the privacy violation which the Ellisons suffered isn't a good reason, then I don't know what is.
