Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty edged closer to a return to Minnesota politics and a run for a third term for governor Monday, officially creating a campaign committee with the state elections board and a website.
A statement from Pawlenty emphasized that he continues to explore a run for governor but said his actions Monday did not comprise an official announcement of his candidacy.
"As I continue to explore a campaign for governor, I filed a campaign committee today to meet the requirements of Minnesota law," he said in a prepared statement. Still, the website bearing a prominent "Pawlenty 2018" logo was the most overt sign yet that the former governor is close to relaunching his political career.
Minnesota law requires anyone raising campaign contributions to create a committee and file notice with the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board within 14 days. Pawlenty and his allies have recently been raising money and planning fundraisers, including one in Naples, Fla., scheduled for Thursday.

Especially if he has Koch AND Mercer backing this year.

(48,460 posts)Here is a guy - OK, as conservative as they come - working hard, the second time around, does not produce much enthusiasm and Pawlenty comes descending straight into the primary.
I don't know that he will bother with the party endorsement.
Interesting though: during his short-lived presidential campaign I read a short bio - in the WSJ, probably.
And it said that during his whole life (then) he never moved beyond 50 miles from where he was born. Schools, jobs, all in the vicinity.
I cam imagine now that his supporters think that after being in D.C. the past - what, six years? - that it would be nice to have a governor with ears in D.C. Or something.

(11,449 posts)When you mentioned running for president, I thought that's strange, I didn't know that Jeff Johnson ran for president. But anyway, I just plowed along with my post, without thinking to check, and had I checked and not seen any evidence in that Wikipedia link that Johnson ran for president (and I sure didn't remember any presidential run by Johnson), I should have reread your post more carefully.
I do remember Pawlenty's dismal run for president.
