Detroit Chamber backs Peters over James for U.S. Senate
The Detroit Regional Chamber's political action committee has endorsed U.S. Sen. Gary Peters' bid for a second term over businessman and chamber member John James with 43 days to go until Election Day.
Brad Williams, vice president of government relations for the Detroit chamber, praised Peters' "bipartisan and pragmatic approach" to lawmaking and said the state's junior senator is the "leading U.S. Senator focused on advancing next-generation mobility, which is critical in accelerating Michigan's role as the global leader in automotive and advanced manufacturing industries."
James, CEO of Renaissance Global Logistics in Detroit, is making his second bid for the U.S. Senate after losing to Sen. Debbie Stabenow in 2018.
The race between Peters and James is one of the most competitive in the country, having already triggered a multimillion-dollar television advertising war between the two candidates and their allies.
